Stunning! That was an (pardon the express) orgasm for the eye!

    what a superbly (hand)crafted, cut-up, hand-held & wrenching, hands-on video piece…
kaleidoscopic reminiscences emerge: man ray’s rayographs, dürer’ & eschers [many]hand studies, o’keefee’s by stieglitz, bunuel’ and dali’s myriad of hand-close-ups, hans bellmer’s hand contortions. a touch of michelangelo’s but mostly rodin’s studies are, somehow, handed over.

I feel like I should comment but I really don’t know what to say! Your awesome at creating emotional feelings through video, tho, I didn’t like the feeling I got from watching this one! Thanks for your wonderful work.

It’s the combination of your usual elegance, attention to detail & grace with the somewhat ambiguous subject matter (or maybe it’s not ambiguous *at all*!) that make this so effective &, to a degree, slightly disturbing.
Of course they’re radically different but it strikes me it’s the same *motor*, structurally speaking, at work here as in your devastating Iraq piece.
Unlike many, I didn’t find ‘Rules of Engagement’ difficult to watch -it was partly that very care with which it was made (its *beauty*, *poetry*, undeniably present especially in the second part) that conjured a complex swathe of emotions from pity to fury.
Here, I do share that slightly uncomfortable feeling of being made voyeur; which uncomfortableness, I suppose, is another a testament to the piece’s effectiveness.
Without the detailed working over I think this piece might elicit laughter (imagine it as a one liner, with none of the work done, posted to You Tube) -it’s the fact that the Rabelaisian substratum is still there under the visual gorgeousness but that the visual gorgeousness so demands our attention that contributes to the work’s ambiguity and our slight not knowing where to look.
PS Wonder what Dr Freud would have had to say :)

How do you come up with these awesome ideas!? Movement, sound, emotion all came together perfectly.

this reminds me of how i wish i could just see how you create all of your videos from first incarnation in your mind to final export. really nice work.

As sad as I am that you’re not vlomoing, it seems to me that you’re putting increasing amounts of production into your videos. To great effect. Extraordinary combination of sound and vision. The first time I ever understood what it was to be attracted to someone, it was when a friend’s girlfriend touched my hand. Gives me shivers thinking about it. This reminded me. Didn’t make me feel awkward at all - felt loving and sensuous. Even if there’s something a bit spooky about disembodied blue hands.

    Nice hand job.

    Sorry, couldn’t help myself.

Good looking effect. I must say I did feel a bit voyeuristic watching it.

    I hope you’re well.

Now that the election is over, I’m looking forward to feeling more relaxed and creative. (economic collapse aside)

    Solid work sir, as always.

    Hello Robert,

I just wanted to drop you a line and thank you for your comments on Hopper Video. It’s delightful to know that you are over on the other side of the pond watching the part my world I share on Hopper. I especially enjoyed your childhood pope remembrances!

I do feel odd writing you general notes that don’t really relate to the work in question (in this case “Much”). Is there another way for me to drop you a line? Are you facebook? Or perhaps you’ll drop me an e-mail.

BTW, I dropped by your Flikr page. Wow! Very beautiful.

    Best
    Rob

first thought the hands were rubbing nervously
    then lustfully
then the surprise of the separation
    two different hands?
